September Times and Dates!
Jerome Celtic Baseball Open Field workouts will begin promptly at 3:15-5:00 at the field and hitting facility every Monday and Wednesday beginning 9/10. Please bring bat, glove, helmet if you have one. The dates are as followed:
9/10, 9/12, 9/17, 9/19, 9/24, 9/26, 10/1, 10/3, 10/8, 10/10, 10/15, 10/17, , 10/24, 10/29, 10/31.
**These are just open field unstructured play. We are not allowed to structure a practice or drills for the players per OHSAA. We can supervise/monitor but not instruct. *
Position coaches will create times and formulate rosters for their 4-man groups we are allowed to coach per OHSAA. Those coaches will be: Harry Caruso with hitting groups, Ken Carpenter with fielding groups, Jay Stoner with pitching groups, and Ron Bookmyer with outfield groups. Those coaches may choose to do a different day to have space to run their drills. For example, Coach Caruso may choose to run some groups on Tuesday 7-9pm. At any rate, they will let players know when their times may be, also the players may be in one or more groups because they do multiple things.
See you on the 10th. Again, this is for all players not playing a FALL sport, all winter athletes are expected to be there unless there is a conflict which should be communicated with the coach.
I also believe there will be a booster gathering or meeting for our upcoming mattress gala in September so stay tuned for an announcement on that.
In November, beginning on 11/5, we will begin our workouts with Mike Durant. Those will run up thru February. We will likely go on same nights Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Time TBD. Those fees are currently being negotiated with Mike. We will let you know how much that will be soon.
Since travel summer ball is morphing into travel year-around ball, we need to be careful of the safety of the arm of the athlete. So many times, we have witnessed a young, promising athlete’s career be washed away by over use of throwing. This includes private lessons. There are only so many throws in an arm, so we must give it time to heal. Even pros rarely pick up a ball in November and December. So, we concentrate on body shaping and conditioning the legs and back and abs in place of long hitting and pitching sessions. If you must throw, find a place to long toss in place of getting on a mound or throwing as hard as you possibly can into a net.
